Are You Making This Top Etsy Seller Mistake? Learn How to Fix it Quickly
The #1 mistake that I see online sellers making... they don't understand who they are selling to. Is this you? If yes, I have some easy ways you can start fixing those mistakes today.
I have been selling on Etsy for a quite a few years now and have also worked as a small shop marketer so I have seen the back-end of a lot of different types of businesses. I can say without a doubt that if you are struggling with an algorithm change, a spike or drop in views/visits/sales, your messaging, social media presence, and marketing - you donβt understand your target market.
When you know who your ideal customer is, then you can also determine:
-- what their problem is
-- how you solve that problem
-- what theyβre looking for and if they are affected by seasonal or holiday shopping, tax returns and bonus season, wedding season, color trends and patterns, etc.
-- who they are shopping for
-- what makes them follow someone on Instagram or click a listing photo on Etsy
When you know ALL of the above, then you know what your keywords should be for your listings because you know your customer and what they are searching for.
Pick one longtail keyword that is the most important and best match for each listing, and put that in your:
-- first 40 characters of your title
-- incorporate it naturally into the first paragraph of your description
-- include it in your tags
-- use it in your social media captions and hashtags
And then, BE EXCITED ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE SELLING! When you are stressing over having the βlights turned on and off in your shopβ or that this morning your views said 4 and now it says 2 so what does that mean - you are not doing your job.
You should be looking at your stats on a longer range basis than just 1 day. Yes, it is great to keep an eye on things regularly. But analyzing your views every single day for only one day of stats is doing nothing to propel your business forward.
Hereβs a few things to do that will keep your business moving forward in the right direction:
Make a copy of one of your least visited listings and make changes to it - test new photos or new tags.
Have a listing that is performing well? Donβt touch it! Duplicate it and change it up - new main photo, new keywords to maybe target a slightly different audience or holiday/event, etc.
Get on social media and start posting regularly.
Show up for your business and use every part of your listings to tell Etsy who your target customer is so they can send them to you! THAT is how the algorithm works π
